Intercityhotel

Brick residence for rail travelers

When it opened in 1995, the six-storey brick building at Altona train station was affectionately nicknamed the "Prison Hotel" because its architecture reminded some people of the Holstenglacis detention center. But all the guests who have stayed in one of the three-star hotel's 133 rooms since it opened were there by choice. They praise the modern interior design, the friendly staff and the convenient location at platform 12 of the long distance train station.

Good to know

One third of the building is free floating: a historic railway tunnel that was once used to transport fish from the Elbe river to the tracks runs beneath it.
