Marienplatz 22

Building with 10,000 "diamanti"

In 2017, following a year of renovation, Marienplatz 22 shines in new splendor: Dividing elements such as ledges and natural stone pillars give the facade its structure and are characteristic of the revitalized facade's discreet simplicity. This aspect is underscored by the high-quality material and subtle light sand-colored tone.

A striking feature is the ornamental details made of natural stone – referred to as "diamanti" (diamonds) – which bring to mind the structure of the facade of the Palazzo dei Diamanti.

Opposite Munich's City Hall

There is barely any retail space in Munich that has a more central location – in the immediate vicinity of Viktualienmarkt, the Frauenkirche and the best streets for shopping.

Classic and unpretentious

10,000 "diamanti"

A striking feature is the ornamental detail made of natural stone that brings to mind the structure of the facade of the Palazzo dei Diamanti. The adjacent building on Rindermarkt also has "diamanti" distributed randomly across its facade and set directly in the plasterwork, echoing the natural stone "diamanti" on the front facade of the main building.

Marienplatz 22: unique inside and out

Not only the facade but, in 2016, also the interior and layout of Marienplatz 22 was redesigned. The volume and architectural design of the building, however, remained unchanged. During the course of revitalization, the property was brought up to date in terms of energy efficiency and fire protection, and the technical building services were also modernized.

A colorful mix of tenants

The building situated across from Munich's City Hall is home to a mix of familiar and new tenants: Telekom operates a flagship store on the ground floor of Marienplatz 22. Karl-Heinz Wildmoser's traditional restaurant is also located on the ground floor – and on the first basement level – and has outdoor eating area on Marienplatz. Hugendubel has a bookstore on the first and second floors, and the International Press Club of Munich has its office on the fourth floor. Geisel Privathotels operates a private hotel on the fifth and sixth floors under the name Beyond by Geisel. It boasts 19 exclusive rooms and suites that offer panoramic views of the town hall, Viktualienmarkt and the historical part of Munich.

Good to know

The architect Gert Goergens deliberately designed the front facade of Marienplatz 22 with diamanti missing in some places. These can be found on the facade of the adjacent building on Rindermarkt.
